NBI on watch vs fake toys, seizes 422 pieces of fake DC Comics
MANILA, Nov. 13 – With the influx of the counterfeit toys this Christmas season, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is on watch against fake toys flooding the local markets.
NBI agents seized 422 pieces of counterfeit DC Comics toys during simultaneous raids in Binondo, Manila.
Regional Director Lawyer Elfren Meneses, chief of NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD), said the raids stemmed from the complaints lodged by DC Comics.
Raided were Lift High General Merchandise and/or Shaketown Gen. Mdse. located at Stalls at 1-34C and 1-36C ground floor, Meisic Mall, Reina Regente corner Felipe Streets, Binondo, Manila; Merlin Gen. Mdse and/or MJY Toys stall 240, 2nd floor, New Divisoria Shopping Center, formerly Bodega Sales Center, Sta. Elena corner Tabora Sts., Binondo, Manila; and Lift High General Merchandise and/or MJY Toys and/or Merlin Gen. Mdse. and/or Shaketown Gen. Mdse. located at ground floor, No. 1046-1 B Alvarado Extension, Binondo, Manila.
Investigation conducted by the NBI – IPRD showed that DC Comics sought investigative assistance from the NBI following the reported proliferation of counterfeit DC Comics toys.
Armed with search warrants issued by Judge Antonio M. Eugenio Jr. of the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 24, the NBI teams conducted simultaneous raids on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
The raids resulted in the confiscation of 422 pieces of counterfeit DC Comics Toys worth Php 42,200.
The owners of the raided establishments are facing charges for violation of RA 8293 otherwise known as Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. (PNA)
