NBI seized sportswear with fake label
Agents of the National Bureau of investigation (NBI) seized P2.3 million worth of counterfeit sportswear “Billabong” during raids in Binondo, Manila on Thursday afternoon.
Raided were Naty’s Lingerie Fashion Haus of Naty and Luis Chua and Regie Carbajosa two retail outlets located at Stall 14 and 15, Sogo Plaza located at 850 Ilaya St., Binondo, Manila.
Also raided were two stockrooms of Carbajosa located on the fourth floor of
the Sogo Plaza.
Lawyer Jose Justo Yap, chief of NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) said the raids on four establishments stemmed from the complaints filed by legal counsels of Billabong firm against the establishments for unfair competition complaint.
A private research company, Orion Support Incorporation (OSI) conducted investigation and test buys and forwarded the information to NBI-IPRD. The NBI agents also conducted test buys and confirmed the report of OSI.
Armed with search of warrants issued by Executive Judge Antonio Eugenio Jr., of Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 24, the raiding teams conducted simultaneous raids on Thursday afternoon. The raids resulted in the confiscation of 1,581 counterfeit Billabong caps worth P2.3 million.
