MANILA, Dec. 16 – Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) seized 12,060 pairs of counterfeit “Vans” rubber shoes worth P18-million following a series of raids in Pasay and Paranaque Monday.
The raids stemmed from complaints lodged by Van’s intellectual property rights support, Orion Support Inc. (OSI).
Raided were three stockrooms and warehouses owned by Sy Tong Wan with addresses at 260-H, Seawind Compound, Quirino Avenue, Tambo, Paranaque City; Unit 208, 2nd Floor, Tagalot Bldg., F.B. Harrison Street, Pasay City; and Unit 0, Ley Warehouse, No. 56 Russel Avenue, also in Pasay.
The raids conducted by agents of NBI-Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) resulted in the seizure of the said pairs of counterfeit “Vans” rubber shoes with an estimated market value of P18 million.
NBI-IPRD agents raided the establishments after Vans intellectual property rights support group, Orion Support Incorporated (OSI), filed a complaint after it received reports that Sy was engaged in the sale of counterfeit “Vans” foot ware.
The owners of the raided establishments face charges of Trademark Infringement under the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines or Republic Act 8293. (PNA)
